Minneapolis Facial Plastic Surgeon Compares Benefits, Efficacy of Surgical and Non-Surgical Facelift

Dr. Jess Prischmann explains how surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques can address different areas of concern and may be combined to optimize effects.

Minneapolis, MN—The secret to aging gracefully rests in moderation, according to Minneapolis facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jess Prischmann. Everyone ages at a different rate, and Dr. Prischmann feels that a multitude of factors contribute to the development of common signs of aging. As a result, Dr. Prischmann customizes treatment plans to suit the unique needs and goals of her patients, recommending surgical, non-surgical, or a combination of procedures for maximal benefit. Each modality offers something special, and combining treatments can lead to the most natural result.

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation includes a broad array of treatments, including dermal fillers, BOTOX® Cosmetic, laser skin resurfacing, and even skin care products, reveals Dr. Prischmann. She explains that these methods address a similarly large range of conditions, such as fine lines, uneven skin tone and texture, volume loss, and mild skin inelasticity. Non-surgical interventions do not require incisions and often offer minimal downtime.

Surgical facial rejuvenation includes procedures such as facelift and blepharoplasty. These procedures are designed to reduce excess skin, tighten muscles, and re-position underlying tissues. Surgical procedures can offer long-lasting benefits and can work in conjunction with non-surgical interventions. Patients wondering whether surgical or non-surgical facial rejuvenation is right for them should discuss their areas of concern and desired outcome with a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, she notes.

Dr. Prischmann says that many individuals ask, “How long will a facelift last?” Facelift surgery is designed to be long lasting, up to 10 years in some cases, though she emphasizes no surgery can offer permanent rejuvenation.

Ultimately, Dr. Prischmann seeks to educate patients on the wide variety of facial rejuvenation options available to them and underscore the benefits of utilizing a customized combination of treatments for the best possible results. Many patients can enjoy smoother, more youthful-looking skin, she states, and  often without the need for extensive downtime. The most important thing for patients seeking cosmetic enhancement to do will be to select an extensively trained, board-certified facial plastic surgeon to help them develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to their goals.
