Why Rhinoplasty May Be Better Than a Non-Surgical Nose Job

Have you heard of a non-surgical nose job? It’s a procedure that utilizes injectable fillers to augment the contours of the nose. Also known as the “Liquid Nose Job,” this technique seems to be gaining in popularity; however, before you consider this procedure, there are a few things you may want to consider.

There are several concerns that simply cannot be resolved with a non-surgical nose job that can be addressed with traditional rhinoplasty. For example, a Liquid Nose Job cannot decrease the size of the nasal bridge, reduce the size of your profile, or correct functional issues such as a deviated septum. Also, the results from dermal filler-based nasal rejuvenation procedures are temporary and will need follow-up treatment once the effects wear off if you want to maintain the initial outcome.

Perhaps the most concerning complication of a non-surgical nose job is something called “vascular occlusion,” or “vascular compromise.” This occurs when the filler is inadvertently injected into a blood vessel, impairing blood flow to the skin. Often, the complication is immediate, irreversible, and can lead to permanent scarring. This is one of the main reasons why Dr. Jess Prischmann prefers traditional rhinoplasty over a temporary injection procedure.

For patients who are looking to reshape and alter the structure of the nose in order to achieve better balance among facial features or to correct nasal breathing problems, a rhinoplasty is typically the better choice. Once you come in for an initial consultation with our facial plastic surgeon, she can talk with you about all of your options and help you determine the procedure that will be right for your individual needs and goals.
